Manasseh also sacrificed his own sons in the fire in the valley of Ben-Hinnom. He practiced sorcery, divination, and witchcraft, and he consulted with mediums and psychics. He did much that was evil in the Lord ’s sight, arousing his anger.
2 Chronicles 33:6 NLT
Watchman Nee wrote a book years ago: The Latent Power of the Soul. He describes how man was made with numerous powers for he was made in the image of God. He was what we would now consider: ‘Super-Human’. When man fell, those ‘powers’ became darkened with sin. Can some professed ‘mediums’ tap into that latent power? Yes. But God abhors it when they do as numerous Scriptures make clear. We are to ‘test the spirits’ and not subject ourselves to the evil one who uses man’s latent powers. We are to only seek the power and Spirit of God.
I have mentioned this subject matter on this site only a few times. Over the past 6 months, I have found it to be the most divisive subject matter amongst those who profess to be Believers.
I will not list all the Scriptures that speak against consulting ‘mediums’ for they are numerous and anyone who wants to take a few minutes to find out what God’s Word says on this matter can google it.
I understand that when we have lost a child, the longing to hear from our child…just one more time…is all-consuming. In the midst of our tremendous grief, we are vulnerable and desperate and overwhelmed with the feelings of hopelessness and helplessness. I have walked this walk, too.
I have grown to hate this subject over these past 6 months. Inevitably, someone gets hurt. I most definitely have been. People on both sides of this matter have been. However, this site actually exists as a result of conversations elsewhere on this specific subject matter. So, from my perspective, Gen, 50:20 ‘You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives.’
God ALWAYS wins!
The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever.
Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.
I will share with you what I have shared elsewhere:
“I find the topic troubling. It never seems to end well. Those that adhere to God’s Word on this matter are always accused of being judgmental. As Believers we are to judge amongst us. We judge a tree by its fruit, etc. There are a number of Scriptures on this matter. We are never judging one’s soul or where they will spend eternity…at least we are not supposed to. That, alone, is God’s job. But we are to discern, and that often leads some to falsely accuse us of ‘judging’.
I find that very troubling and sad. Immediately, because our intent is usually good in sharing what God says on this subject, the tables get turned on us and we are falsely accused as being judgmental, and then we often go silent which is exactly what the enemy wants. He loves to have us stop speaking God’s Word out of fear of offending someone, or fear of such false accusations. We cannot always avoid offending some. We try not to offend, but we must always speak God’s truth even if it causes offense. Even Jesus offended many. MT. 13:57 And they were offended in him. But Jesus said unto them, A prophet is not without honour, save in his own country, and in his own house.
John 6:61 When Jesus knew in himself that his disciples murmured at it, he said unto them, Doth this offend you?
As Christians we will never win any popularity contests. J. 15:18 If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you. MT. 10:22 And ye shall be hated of all men for my name’s sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved. 1 Thes. 5:21 21 Prove all things; hold fast that which is good. 22 Abstain from all appearance of evil.
1 John 2:
19 They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would no doubt have continued with us: but they went out, that they might be made manifest that they were not all of us……….ask yourself: was the apostle John judging them in making such a statement?”
I am wearied by this topic. Choose to obey God, or not. We all have a freewill. We all answer to Him, not man.
(Choose Whom You Will Serve)
14 Now therefore fear the Lord, and serve him in sincerity and in truth: and put away the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the flood, and in Egypt; and serve ye the Lord. 15 And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.
